PEI Invites Comments on Atlantic Gateway Initiative
PEI's department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal has announced proposed realigments to Trans Canada Highway at Churchill and Crapaud/Tyron with funding from the Atlantic Gateway Initiative.
A comprehensive review of the Trans Canada Highway from Charlottetown to Borden carried out by the department outlined major alignment and safety issues, including:
- steep grades and several vertical and horizontal curves
- numerous intersections and driveways
- high percent of truck traffic, approximately 500 trucks per day
The Atlantic Gateway Initiative provides the province with an excellent opportunity to improve sections of the province's main trade corridor by re-aligning the route where improvements are most needed.
