Written Test Required for New Commercial Vehicle Operators to Obtain CVOR in Ontario after October 1, 2013
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has advised that amendments have been made to Regulation 424/97 “Commercial Vehicle Operators' Information” of the Highway Traffic Act. These amendments require new truck and bus operators to complete a CVOR written test demonstrating their knowledge of Ontario’s laws and regulations as they apply to the operation of commercial motor vehicles.
New Ontario-based truck and bus operators applying for a CVOR certificate on or after October 1, 2013 will be affected by this new requirement. See highlights of the new requirement here.
The CVOR test is part of the ongoing development of the New Entrant Education and Evaluation Program and must be successfully completed prior to obtaining a CVOR Certificate. The test, which consists of multiple-choice questions, must be completed in person at one of the current DriveTest centres in Ontario. Test questions are based on content contained in the Commercial Vehicle Operators’ Safety manual available online here. The cost of a test, or subsequent retest, is $32.00.
The amendments to Regulation 424/97, including the addition of Section 1.3, can be found online here.
